Hoper of far-flung hopes

Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Firefly, and sometimes just general dorkery.

I'm 23 and I never grew out of fairy tales.

You know why we can’t fix the rates of gun violence in this country?Because the second anyone points out that these statistics are a problem, half the country immediately gets defensive and won’t say anything beyond “Don’t take away my guns,” regardless of whether or not anyone has advocated a total ban on guns. "America has a high rate of gun violence.""Don’t take my guns." "Maybe we should look into improving background checks for gun purchases.""Don’t take my guns." "Maybe we should start looking at banning high-capacity guns that are designed to fire as many rounds as possible as quickly as possible." "Don’t take my guns." "Maybe we should look into ways to make it more difficult for the mentally ill to get weapons.""Don’t take my guns.""Maybe we should do something about the abhorrent amount of children who are killed by firearms each year.""Don’t take my guns." Dear NRA and their buddies: You’re beginning to sound like a broken record. We get it. You wanna keep your guns. Can we move on now and start talking about how to prevent yet another tragedy like the last one? Because, believe it or not, there exists a middle ground between a total ban on firearms and the totally unacceptable situation we currently have. Grow up and stop seeing the world in black and white.
